Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pride 100?
Pride 100 is a group dedicated to supporting the local LGBTQ+ community of BCS. Members meet to hear about local nonprofits. Then give to one of them financially as a group. Members will meet three times in 2024.

Who can become a member of Pride 100?
All LGBTQIA+ and Allies in the Bryan and College Station community are welcome to join. Pride 100 would like to have members representing the full diversity of our community. In addition to helping the community, members have the opportunity to connect with other LGBTQIA+ and Allies in the community.

What is the commitment to be a member of Pride 100?
Members meet for one hour during the evening, three times total per year: Spring, Summer and Fall. Each member commits to donating a $100 per meeting (check or online) which will be made out to the cause that receives the most votes during the meeting. Members are committed to giving a total of $300 per year to selected nonprofits.

Who nominates the nonprofits?
Any member of Pride 100 can nominate local charities, non-profits or worthy causes. Nominations will open up a couple of weeks before a general meeting. An email and a post on the private members only Facebook group will announce nomination periods.

Which nonprofits are eligible to be nominated and voted upon?
Local causes benefiting a group, facility, organization, immediate need or person within the LGBTQIA+ community are eligible. No national chapters are eligible unless they have a local branch that directly benefits the Bryan/College Station community. Nonprofits do not have to have 501 (c)(3) status. Nonprofits must support the LGBTQIA+ community.

How is the “winning” nonprofit selected?
Each nominated nonprofit is vetted by Pride 100 leaders to make sure it is a legitimate cause, meets the requirement of being “gay friendly” and benefits the Pride 100 cause. Nominees are ranked by Pride 100 members before the giving meeting electronically. Top 5 ranking organizations will be notified in time to prepare for the meeting presentation. Pride 100 members who made the nominations or a staff member from the organization makes a 5-minute or less presentation about the cause during a general meeting. Presentations will be followed with a 5 minute Q&A. Members vote by secret ballot immediately after the Q&A on which cause to support. The top vote getting nonprofit will receive all of the donations.

What if I can’t attend a meeting?
While members will not be able to vote for the nonprofits presented during the meeting, they can send their check with a friend, deliver it to a Pride 100 leadership member, or give to the beneficiary online. Proof of online donations is required to fulfill the member's commitment. Members are committed to giving $100 after each meeting, even if they cannot attend in person. All donations are expected to be completed within 7 days of the meeting. If possible a virtual method of attending meetings and voting will be provided.
